Hannemann campaign tops $1M in fundraising

MEDIA RELEASE

Democratic candidate Mufi Hannemann has reported his campaign for Hawaii’s 2nd Congressional District had collected nearly $253,000 during the April to June 2012 quarter.

That figure brings his fundraising total to more than $1 million since he announced his candidacy in August 2011.

The campaign reported that Hannemann received impressive grassroots support from within Hawaii. 85% of donors were from in-state, and 62% of the contributions were of $200 or less.

Hannemann stated, “I am gratified by the support our campaign has received from people across Hawaii, from Naalehu to Niihau, and everywhere in between. We’ve raised the most of all the candidates in this race, and donations continue to come in, particularly after last week’s debate on statewide television.”

Hannemann added, “With the help of our supporters, we reached the $1,000,000 goal we set at the beginning of this campaign. We will continue to work hard in the last four weeks before the August 11th primary election to show why Hawaii needs an experienced leader who can hit the ground running in Washington, D.C.”

This week’s campaign finance filing comes less than a week after an opponent submitted a false and frivolous complaint with the Federal Election Commission.

The Hannemann campaign remains confident that the FEC will find these claims to be without merit. Indeed, as was reported by Hawaii News Now on July 9, national campaign finance expert Bob Stern said, “I doubt that the Federal Election Commission would take any action…there is no merit to the complaint.”
