The intersection of Ane Keohokāole Highway and Kealakehe Parkway in North Kona will be converted to an all-way stop. Construction is scheduled to begin Tuesday (June 12). Work is scheduled to be completed Friday (June 22). Traffic signs will be erected during construction to alert motorists of one-lane closures.

Currently there are no stops on Kealakehe Parkway. Once stop signs are installed on Kealakehe Parkway all motorists shall be required to stop before proceeding through the intersection. Motorists are reminded to follow the rules of the road, and whichever vehicle comes to the intersection first has the right of way. If vehicles approach the intersection at the same time, right of way is to the vehicle on the right.

In anticipation of the four-way stop intersection, zig zag lines will be painted on Ane Keohokālole Highway leading to the stop. Zig zag lines capture the attention of motorists who slow down to look at them when approaching a four-way stop. On Kealakehe Parkway horizontal marks will be painted on the pavement leading up to the stop sign. The words, “stop ahead,” will be painted on to the street.

Roadwork is weather permitting.
