AT&T celebrated the grand opening Saturday, June 2 of its new Kona Commons Center store.

The festivities began with a private traditional Hawaiian blessing, performed by Kahu Daniel Akaka, Jr., followed by a $1,000 check presentation to the Lion’s Club of Kona.

AT&T Director of Sales Ed Maruyama, Area Sales Manager Daime Dasalla-Jaquias, and Store Manager Ikaika Soo made the charitable donation to the local organization.

Maruyama said AT&T sees itself as a part of the community and wanted to do its part in giving back.

The new store features a state-of-the-art, hands-on design to engage shoppers and provide a “try before you buy” service experience.

“We are focused on making our customers’ in-store experience exceptional, and that begins with a convenient store location, user-friendly layout and knowledgeable staff,” Maruyama said. “As part of the Kailua-Kona business community, we’re always looking for new opportunities to provide an enhanced customer experience and our investment in the new retail store is just one way we’re accomplishing that.

The store is located at 74-5457 Makala Blvd., Ste. 100, Kailua-Kona, HI 96740, next to the Target store.

The Lions Club of Kona, known for its community service work including hearing and vision screening, food drives, as well as recently handing out four $1,000 scholarships to Konawaena High seniors was a perfect fit for the donation.
