Police arrest Kona man threatening to ‘shoot up’ a Big Island hospital

A 51-year-old Kona man was arrested Wednesday (May 30) in connection with threatening comments made about a Big Island hospital.

Kona Patrol Officers responded to a call from Kona Community Hospital at 9:24 a.m. Wednesday after receiving a report that a man had made phone calls threatening to “shoot up” the hospital.

Police contacted Philip Couch at his home in the White Sands area off Ali‘i Drive and arrested him at 12:40 p.m. on suspicion of disorderly conduct for causing alarm at the hospital. He was released about an hour later pending further investigation.
