HSTA informational meetings (May 10)

Hawaii State Teachers Association is urging members to take the time Thursday to attend one of the statewide informational meetings.

* Honolulu: McKinley High School, Hirata Hall, 3-6 p.m.
* Honolulu: Kaiser High School, Cafeteria, 3-5:30 p.m.
* Central: Leilehua High School, Cafeteria, 3:30-5:30 p.m.
* Leeward: Waianae High School, Cafeteria, 3:30-5:30 p.m.
* Leeward: Pearl City Cultural Center, Meeting Room, 3-5:30 p.m.
* Windward: Kailua Intermediate School, Cafeteria, 3:30-5:30 p.m.
* Maui: Baldwin High School, Multi-purpose Room, 4:30-6:30 p.m.
* Hilo: Hilo Intermediate School, Auditorium, 3-4:45 p.m. (change from original published times)
* Hamakua: Honokaa High School, Cafeteria, 4-6 p.m.

HSTA’s HQ Hotline will be open for member questions 6-8 p.m.

Also, longtime teacher, Wil Okabe, has been re-elected president of the Hawaii State Teachers Association. The HSTA Board of Directors certified the member vote Tuesday night.

“I am humbled by the vote of confidence the teachers have given me. These are difficult times. We must remain united in the pursuit of what is best for our profession and the children we teach,” Okabe said. “I want to thank those who voted for me and I want all members to know that I will work as hard as I can to do as much as I can for every member of our Association.”

Okabe’s second three-year term officially starts July 8, 2012.
