Baseball: Waiakea in championship game

No. 3 seed Waiakea is posed to play in the Division I baseball state championship game Friday against No. 4 Baldwin on Oahu.

OC16 will have live coverage of the game beginning at 7 p.m.

In Thursday’s semi-final, Waiakea pipped defending state champion Pearl City, 2-1.

Waiakea came in third in 2004, 2005 and 2006. In its only previous appearance in the championship game, Waiakea lost to Iolani in 1996.

In the other semi-final, unseeded Hilo couldn’t mount a comeback against Baldwin, losing 6-2.

Hilo and Pearl City play for third and fourth place.

In Division II, No. 4 seed Kamehameha Schools Hawaii was ousted in the semi-finals by No. 1 Waimea, 9-4. Kamehameha faces Maryknoll in the third place game.

Also Friday in Division II action, Konawaena and Waialua play for fifth and sixth place. Both teams are unseeded.
