Fire/rescue crews responded to a 10:09 a.m. alarm for a possible drowning victim aboard a boat Sunday morning (May 6) off the Puna coastline.
The dive boat was offshore Kalapana Seaview Estates when the incident occured. There was nobody else onboard to perform CPR as the driver of the boat sped back to Pohoiki boat ramp after calling for help.
The boat stopped to rendezvous with the fire department’s Chopper One off-shore which then airlifted the victim, via Billy Pugh net, to Kalapana Seaview Estates Park to an ambulance.
The victim was determined by medics to be dead and was transfered to the custody of the police. The cause of the man’s death is undetermined according to fire dispatch.
That is why it is wise to know your limits and physical abilities while diving. Accidents happens and when you ar not physically fit and have had any medical problems that diving could put stress on the best advice is to not go. I am sure the man driving the boat did all that he could to help and get help for the man who drowned.
Thdge,
Sorry to say but this man that drowned is my family, and believe me, he could out dive people without a tank. He has been diving since he was little with his dad, he never smoked, the heart doctors commended him of having a clean heart and artery due to him diving. His son was on the boat along with another guy who was in the water with him, and his son is the one that saw him floating, pulled him into the boat, and gave him CPR. He then was the driver of the boat. Please, know the facts before posting any judgmental comments. Thank you.
This is my uncle Jay. My dad always dived with him. There is no way this was an accident. He was the best diver. He knew what he was doing.
