PBS showcases Hilo native Higa (April 10)

Ryan Higa is best known for his viral videos, which have been viewed more than 1 billion times on YouTube.

The 21-year-old Hilo native sits down with PBS Hawaii President and CEO, Leslie Wilcox, for a rebroadcast of Long Story Short at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 10.

The viral sensation began his YouTube career, while a student at Waiakea High School. After Higa moved to Las Vegas to attend UNLV, he began posting more comedy skits, which featured his own music.

Since then, his YouTube channel has created a strong following, making him the first person to reach 3 million subscribers. He has collaborated with many other YouTube stars and has been featured in a few short films as well as a feature-length film called Ryan and Sean’s Not So Excellent Adventure.

Now, Higa has the second most subscribed to YouTube channel of all time with 4.7 million subscribers.
