MEDIA RELEASE

Kona, HI – Donations may also be made online at www.hawaiiredcross.org. This fundraiser is specifically to help the “local” efforts of the Red Cross to provide critical programs and services to the community.

On March 30 and April 1, volunteers will be collecting donations at Walmart Kona. March 31 is the larger event with volunteers collecting donations at Walmart Kona, Walmart Hilo, KTA Kona, KTA Puainako, KTA Waimea, and Parker Ranch Shopping Center by Starbucks and Foodland. Lion’s Club members will be volunteering at all Walmart locations statewide on Saturday. Other volunteer groups helping include Key Clubs from Hilo High and Waiakea High Schools, Bank of Hawaii, and Rotary Club of Hilo.

“On the Big Island, our Red Cross volunteers respond to everyday disasters like house fires and floods, providing emergency assistance and emotional support to those affected,” said Coralie Matayoshi, Red Cross Chief Executive Officer. “Whether it’s an earthquake or winter storm, the Red Cross will be there. Because we are not a government agency, we rely on the generosity and aloha from the people on the Big Island to provide these critical services to the community.”
