The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a winter weather advisory for Big Island summits above 8,000 feet until 4 p.m Friday (March 9).

Thunderstorms over the Big Island tonight and Friday will bring snow showers and fog to the summit. Snow accumulations call for up to two inches through Friday afternoon with the snow at levels around 11,500 feet and higher.

The freezing rain, snow and sleet will make driving conditions difficult due to slippery roads and limited visibility.
