High surf advisory remains in effect for East facing shores

By Hawaii 24/7 Staff

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has extended the high surf advisory for East facing shores of the Big Island until 6 a.m. Thursday (March 1).

Surf is forecast to be rough, choppy and six to eight feet in height. Winds from the East are causing the high surf conditions.

Swimmers and beachgoers should use caution in and near the ocean as the high surf can produce dangerous rip currents and localized beach erosion.

A small craft advisory is also in effect until 6 a.m. Thursday for all Hawaiian waters except for the Leeward waters of Kauai, Oahu and Maui County.
