The National Weather Service in Honolulu has upgraded their advisory to a winter storm warning for Big Island summits above 8,000 from late Saturday through 6 a.m. Monday (Feb 20).
A low pressure system is bringing cold temperatures to the summits and upper slopes on the Big Island. This and enchanced moisture will combine to produce freezing rain, black ice on roadways, snow and possibly hail. Strong winds are also possible.
Travellers to the summits should use caution due to these possible hazardous conditions for driving and hiking. Temperatures are forecast to be in the mid 20s.
