Wind and High Surf Advisories for the Big Island

By Hawaii 24/7 Staff

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a Wind Advisory for Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa through noon Monday (Jan 30).

Winds from the East are forecast to reach speeds of 25-35 mph with gusts over 50 mph on elevations above 8,000 feet.

The high winds can make driving difficult, especially for drivers of high profile vehicles. Travellers to the summits should use caution.

The National Weather Service has also issued a High Surf Advisory for West facing shores of the Big Island until 6 p.m. Sunday (Jan 29).

Surf is forecast to be six to eight feet in height. Beachgoers and swimmers should use caution in and around the ocean.
