Tickets available for Mauna Lani ‘Celebrity Chef Tour’ (Jan. 20 & 21)

MEDIA RELEASE

The second annual Celebrity Chef Tour benefiting the James Beard Foundation returns Jan. 20-21 to the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel & Bungalows, bringing an impressive line-up of superstar chefs including Jonathan Waxman, Ming Tsai, Tyler Florence, Sam Choy and celebrity cocktail mixologist, Manny Hinojosa.

This not-to-be-missed culinary showcase is a celebration of all things Hawaii — the bounty of locally grown seasonal produce available on Hawaii Island, the long-held Hawaii tradition of gathering friends and family to share good food and good times, and of course, delighting in Hawaii’s warm climate and spectacular scenery.

The two-day event opens with a relaxed oceanfront evening cocktail reception with live Hawaiian entertainment 6-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20. World-renown Hawaiian chef, Sam Choy, will prepare hor’s doeuvres reflecting his signature Pacific Rim style.

International award-winning cocktail mixologist, Manny Hinojosa, also personal cocktail consultant to Guy Fieri, will prepare a selection of exclusively designed Grey Goose cocktails with distinct island flair. Hinojosa, who was a chef first before turning to cocktail mixology, creates his own syrups, juices and garnishes and pours each drink as if they are liquid gold.

At 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21 at Mauna Lani Bay’s CanoeHouse restaurant, chefs Waxman, Tsai and Florence, along with Mauna Lani’s Executive Chef Sandy Tuason, will prepare a six-course dinner centered around the best and freshest local island ingredients. Each course will be matched with exquisite wines and Hinojosa’s flavorful cocktails for select courses.

The exact menu for Saturday’s dinner will not be decided until the chefs visit local Hawaii Island farms to select their ingredients. The chefs, however, have collaboratively agreed the food will be bold and imaginative at one level, yet simple and focused at another and are encouraging a family-style, communal experience.

Food-lovers are invited to make a weekend of it and take advantage of Mauna Lani Bay’s special Celebrity Chef Tour room rates with rooms starting from $230 per night (plus tax).

Attending this event goes well beyond an amazing culinary experience. The Celebrity Chef Tour benefits the James Beard Foundation, whose mission is to “celebrate, preserve and nurture America’s diverse culinary heritage and future.” To date, the Celebrity Chef Tour has raised more than $950,000 for the James Beard Foundation.
