Winter Weather Advisory for Big Island summits until noon Thursday (Dec 22)

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the summits of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa until noon Thursday (Dec 22).

The Mauna Kea Access Road is closed to the public as dangerous freezing conditions exist on the summit. Snow and freezing rain above 12,000 along with wind gusts up to 25 mph are have made driving conditions hazardous. Visibility is near zero at times and temperatures remain in the lower 30s with an additional one to two inches of snow possible today.
