Big Island DUI stats for the week of November 14-20, 2011

During the week of November 14, 2011, through November 20, 2011, Big Island police arrested 23 motorists for drunk driving. Four of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. One was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 1,307 DUI arrests compared with 1,363 during the same period last year, a decrease of 4.1 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 1,216 major accidents so far this year compared with 1,254 during the same period last year, a decrease of 3 percent.

So far this year, there were 19 traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with 24 during the same period last year, a decrease of 20.8 percent.

To date, 13 fatalities this year were related to drugs only (3), alcohol only (5), or a combination of both (5).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
