Snow and ice closes Mauna Kea Access Road to public

MEDIA RELEASE

The Mauna Kea Access road is currently closed to the public at the Visitor Information Station (VIS) gate due to snow on all summit roads. We do not know when the road will be opened. This message will be updated when condition change.

UPDATE 11/9/11 11:35 a.m.

The road to the summit on Mauna Kea has opened to the public. Light snow has been falling on the summit.

UPDATE 11/9/11 8:30 p.m.

The access road to Mauna Kea summit is closed to the public due to ice and snow on all summit roads. The road will remain closed through Thursday morning (Nov 10).
