UH-Hilo’s Hurley voted PacWest pre-season player of the year

Hillary Hurley has been selected the Pacific West Conference pre-season basketball Player of the Year by a vote of conference coaches.

A 2010-11 first-team all-conference selection, the 6-foot-2 senior forward started 20 of 21 games after joining the team at the conclusion of the volleyball season. She averaged 14.9 points, 9.4 rebounds and 24.0 minutes per game and recorded 10 double-doubles.

Hurley picked up seven of nine first place votes while Hawaii Pacific University’s Mana Hopkins and Dixie State College’s Sheila Adams each claimed one each.

In a vote of anticipated order of finish, the Vulcans were expected to finish in 7th place. A top the board was Grand Canyon University followed by Dixie State, California Baptist University, Hawaii Pacific, Academy of Art University, Brigham Young University-Hawaii, Hawaii Hilo, Notre Dame de Namur University, Dominican University and Chaminade University.
