Fire/rescue units responded to a 6:58 a.m. alarm Monday (Nov 7) to a structure fire in Kapaau, North Kohala.
Crews found a home on Union Mill Road engulfed in flames. Occupants of the home escaped the fire and gathered at a pre-designated meeting place.
Firefighters got the blaze under control by 7:45 a.m. with the fire declared out at 8 a.m. The Red Cross also responded to the scene to help the residents of the burned home.
Total loss in the fire is estimated to be $250,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
