Weiss recognized with ‘Distinguished Service Award’

Dr. Roger Weiss, a Kona psychologist, has been recognized by the Hawaii Psychological Association with the “Distinguished Service Award.” This honor was given for dedicated and meritorious service to the advancement of psychology in the State of Hawaii.

Weiss moved to Hawaii from another island – Manhattan Island. He had a psychotherapy practice in New York City for 12 years before coming to Hawaii.

He was also chief psychologist of the Roosevelt Community Mental Health Center.

Weiss has been in private practice in Kona for 29 years, counseling with individuals, couples and families.

Internationally, he has presented on the topics of psychology and community-building in India and Sweden.

Currently he serves as the Big Island’s representative to the Hawaii Psychological Association.

Weiss is also the president of the Hawaii Island Psychologists Association, where he has facilitated programs for CE credits on the Big Island for the past year and a half.

This has brought together the psychological community by offering opportunities for enrichment on a variety of psychological topics.

In accepting the award, Weiss said feels privileged to serve people of the Big Island.
