DUI stats for the week of October 24-30, 2011

During the week of October 24, 2011, through October 30, 2011, Big Island police arrested 25 motorists for drunk driving. Four of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Two were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 1,233 DUI arrests compared with 1,280 during the same period last year, a decrease of 3.7 percent.

There have been 1,136 major accidents so far this year compared with 1,174 during the same period last year, a decrease of of 3.2 percent.

So far this year, there were 18 traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with 23 during the same period last year, a decrease of 21.7 percent.

To date, 13 fatalities this year were related to drugs only (3), alcohol only (5), or a combination of both (5).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
