Police ask for public’s help in Eden Rock burglary and attempted arson

Hawaiʻi County police are asking for information about a burglary and attempted arson in Puna. The crimes occurred at a home on Ohia Street in the Eden Roc subdivision sometime between Saturday (October 22) and Sunday (October 23).

Investigation revealed that one or more unknown suspects pried open the front door, took electronic items from inside and then attempted to burn the house. The structure sustained damage to the front stair. A vehicle in the garage also was damaged.

Police ask that anyone with information about this case call Officer Greg Karonis at 965-2716 or the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311.

Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
