MEDIA RELEASE
Hundreds attended the grand re-opening of the Mountain View Gym on the Big Island. The Mt. View Gym has been closed due to hazardous lead paint. It was a collaborative effort from Hawaii County’s Mayor’s office, Parks and Recreation, Hawaii County Council, Community organizations and community volunteers that helped to make this day possible. The Mountain View Gym has been a center of activities since it’s opening in 1938. Long time resident of Mt. View, Mr. Elpidio Calip, shared his memories of honing his basketball skills in the 1960’s. The gym was closed in May, 2009.
