Top marks for Kaiser Permanente Hawaii’s Medicare plan

MEDIA RELEASE

Kaiser Permanente Hawaii has announced its Medicare plan received an overall rating of 5 stars for parts C and D, the highest rating from The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for 2012.

Through the Medicare Star Quality Rating System, CMS assigns scores of one to five stars to Medicare plans based on 50 quality measures across five categories that include staying healthy, managing chronic conditions, member satisfaction, customer service, and pharmacy services.

“The five-star rating represents excellent performance, something we strive to provide for our patients every day,” said Susan Murray, Kaiser Permanente Hawaii vice president of Safety, Quality, and Service. “Medicare can be complicated, so we hope seniors use the Medicare Star Quality Ratings tool as a guide to help select their health coverage.”

5-Star plans will be permitted to enroll new enrollees throughout the year. Medicare plans with fewer than 5 stars have much more restricted opportunities to enroll only during a designated annual open enrollment period.

Enrollees can learn more about the Medicare Star Quality Ratings and Kaiser Permanente’s Medicare plans by visiting www.kp.org/medicarestars or www.Medicare.Gov, or by calling 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227) 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Plan performance summary star ratings are assessed each year and may change from one year to the next.
