Steve Pavao, executive director of Brantley Center on Hawaii Island, will be installed as board president of the Coalition for a Tobacco-Free Hawaii (CTFH) during its annual meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 26.
Pavao is a former smoker who credits the work of the CTFH for saving his life. He is an avid runner having participated in more than 30 marathons including the Boston Marathon after kicking the addiction.
Pavao was born and raised in Hilo. As executive director of the Brantley Center, he leads the nonprofit in providing services to the disabled community in North Hawaii through empowerment and rehabilitation.
He holds a bachelors of arts degree in psychology from the University of Hawaii at Hilo and a masters degree from Clemson University in South Carolina.
Pavao is a community leader serving as the Big Island region director for PONY Baseball and recently served as the chair of the County of Hawaii’s Environmental Management Commission.
The Coalition for a Tobacco-Free Hawaii is the only organization in Hawaii that works to build, sustain, and support a statewide coalition to create a tobacco-free Hawaii.
