DUI stats for the week of September 12-18, 2011

During the week of September 12, 2011, through September 18, 2011, Big Island police arrested 23 motorists for drunk driving. Two of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Three were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 1,059 DUI arrests compared with 1,103 during the same period last year, a decrease of four percent.

There have been 988 major accidents so far this year compared with 995 during the same period last year, a decrease of of 0.7 percent.

So far this year, there were 15 traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with 21 during the same period last year, a decrease of 28.6 percent.

To date, 11 fatalities this year were related to drugs only (3), alcohol only (3), or a combination of both (5).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
