Andrea’s Eat Local Food Stamp Challenge: Day 2

(EDITOR’S NOTE: North Kohala resident Andrea Dean calls herself a SocioEcoPreneur who partners with communities, businesses and non-profits on initiatives that enhance the island environment, economy and community. She is involved with the North Kohala Eat Locally Grown Campaign and has challenged herself to eat only local foods on a food stamp budget for the month of September 2011.)

I started the day with scrambled eggs with ahi and spinach. Half asleep, I was warming a tortilla over the gas flame when my friend Alex asked what I was doing.

I reluctantly surrendered my nice, warm tortilla to Alex.

I had a banana, strawberry, poi, honey and milk smoothie for lunch and a 1/2 avo for a snack.

It is Friday night, and my usual Friday night routine is dinner at the Kava Kafe.

Every month is Eat Local month at the Kava Kafe – every Friday night they serve up local music with a local, vegan, organic meal lovingly prepared by Leia Lawrence.

So what’s the problem?

  1. Awesome stuff. Ok my husband and I are up for this challenge. We are going for the 1 week all local deal.

How much is a food stamp budget? Would like to incorporate this as well since it irritates me so much when people say that they eat junk food cuz it’s cheaper. I disagree. People pay A LOT of money for junk food!
