Tropical Storm Fernanda update for Thursday (Aug 18)

Updated at 11:15 p.m. 8/18/11

At 11 p.m. HST the center of Tropical Storm Fernanda was located 840 miles East-Southeast of South Point Hawaii. Maximum sustained winds of 50 mph with higher gusts are reported with tropical storm force winds extending outward up to 80 miles. The storm is moving towards the West-Northwest at about 12 mph.

The Central Pacific Hurricane Center reports that Fernanda is starting to fall apart. Wind shear is shredding the system apart and shear is forecast to increase over time further degrading the storm.

As the remnant of Fernanda passes South of the Big Island moisture North of the system will likely bring increased rain showers and humidity to East Hawaii Sunday into Tuesday.
