Hawaii Volcanoes National Park programs for August

* 10 a.m. -noon, Wednesday, Aug. 10 on the lanai

Join Michelle Wall-O’Connor as she shares the art of Lomilomi, Hawaiian massage. Lomilomi is based on loving touch (aloha) and is a thorough and therapeutic massage which she learned from the late Aunty Margaret Machado, the first Lomilomi instructor in Hawaii.

Michelle has a full-time lomilomi practice and has a passion for sharing this ancient art of healing.

* 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17 in the auditorium

Come and enjoy the music of Kihei Nahale-a, singer, songwriter and kumu. Born and raised in Hilo to a prominent musical family, Kihei also plays with numerous other musicians such as Mark Yamanaka, Napua Mākua, Sean Naleimaile, and many others. Kīhei is passionate about sharing and perpetuating his knowledge of the Hawaiian culture and its music.

Come and enjoy the Domingo ohana as they share the skills and art of Lei Hulu and Papale Lauhala: son Kilohana Domingo, master lei maker of the intricate art of feather lei and mother Lehua Domingo who will share her unique anoni style of weaving lauhala (pandanus leaves) into exquisite hat designs.
