Friends of Hawaii Volcanoes Park receives $5,000

MEDIA RELEASE

The National Environmental Education Foundation (NEEF) Every Day Grants program has awarded 22 nonprofit “Friends groups” grants of up to $5,000 each.

Friends of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park was one of the 22 grantees. The selection process was highly competitive, as more than 300 groups submitted applications.

FHVNP was awarded $5,000 for its “Friendraising Website Development” project.

“To accomplish many of our organization’s short- and long-term goals, we need to increase our ability to ‘Friendraise,’ which will then increase our ability to protect, preserve, and interpret the natural and cultural resources at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park for enjoyment of current and future generations,” said FHVNP general manager Julie Mitchell.

“As a small non-profit without a visible storefront, FHVNP’s website is our most important ‘face’ to the world. If we can better engage the public through a redesign of our site, we can attract more volunteers, members, program participants, board members, and donors,” Mitchell said.

Every Day Grants, sponsored by Toyota Motor Sales, USA Inc., are designed to provide funding to strengthen the organizational effectiveness of community-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit Friends groups.

Friends groups are nonprofits that assist parks and other public lands by fundraising, recruiting volunteers, and leading restoration projects and other events.
