PUC sets Young Brothers public hearings

Karin Stanton | Hawaii 24/7 Editor

The state Public Utilities Commission has scheduled a series of hearings on Young Brothers Ltd.’s application to raise interisland shipping rate.

Young Brothers seeks approval for a rate hike ranging from 14 percent to 38.7 percent depending on the type of cargo, which will generate an additional $14.4 million in revenue for the company.

Young Brothers has said the hike is necessary to provide a reasonable profit in response to cargo volume declines and competition from Pasha Hawaii Transport Lines.
