Firefighters responded to a 1:22 p.m. alarm Tuesday (July 12) to a brushfire at the North end of Beach Road in Hawaiian Paradise Park.
When firefighters arrived one acre was burning but the fire progressed rapidly Southwest making it difficult for firefights to access due to various barriers and terrain in the area.
The fire threatened about eight structures but crews were able to contain it using firefighters, helicopter water drops and firebreaks cut by a bulldozer. About 70 acres were burned, there was no loss of structures and no injuries were reported. Firefighters planned on watching the burned area overnight to prevent flareups.
