Big Island police are searching for a Ka’u man wanted in connection with a domestic confrontation on Sunday (July 3).
Nathan Cakin, 31, of PÄhala allegedly used a firearm to force his way into his girlfriend’s car in the driveway of their PÄhala home and then forced her to drive.
The woman stopped the car on Wood Valley Road and ran away. Cakin allegedly fired two shots and ordered her back into the car. Before she reached the car, the woman was able to escape into a vehicle driven by a passing tourist.
Cakin then allegedly got into the car his girlfriend had been driving, reached into the tourist’s car and dragged his girlfriend by the hair.
The tourist drove the victim to the NÄ’Älehu police station.
Cakin is described as Filipino, 5-foot-9, about 250 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.
Police ask that anyone with information on his whereabouts call the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
