Leilani Estates blaze burns two-story home Tuesday (June 14)

Fire/rescue crews responded to a 6:46 p.m. alarm Tuesday (June 14) to a structure fire in Leilani Estates in Puna.

Upon arrival crews found a two-story home engulfed in flames and partially collapsed on Kahukai Street between Leilani Avenue and Mohala. Firefighters cut a lock on a gate to access the property and had the fire under control by 7:15 p.m. with the fire declared out at 10:30 p.m.

The blaze brought a live power line down on Kahukai Street prompting police to block access to the area.

The two-story house which consists of a second floor residence and ground floor workshop which burned while a pair of boats and storage containers on the site escaped damage.

There were no occupants in the home at the time of the fire and property loss was estimated to be $150,000. The cause of the blaze in under investigation.
