Man tries to rob woman at Hapuna Beach Sunday (May 29)

Big Island police are looking for witnesses to a robbery attempt at the Hapuna Beach State Park on Sunday afternoon (May 29).

Sometime between 5:15 p.m. and 5:20 p.m., an unknown male tried to remove a handbag from a 56-year old female in the upper parking lot area at Hapuna Beach State Park.

The suspect is described as 5-foot-10 to 5-foot-11, slim with brown hair parted in the middle and wearing a white t-shirt and shorts.

Police would like to talk to a female whom the victim made contact with after the incident and to any other witnesses who may have been in the vicinity at the time of the robbery attempt. Police ask that witnesses or anyone else with information on this case call the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311.

Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
