Merriman’s hosting benefit dinner (May 14)

MEDIA RELEASE

Chef Peter Merriman invites the Hawaii Island community to meet the Hawaiian Islands Land Trust, a new statewide land conservancy, at a benefit dinner at his Waimea restaurant Saturday, May 14.

Tickets are $150 per person, with proceeds going to benefit land conservation in Hawaii.

Over a feast of fine wine and fresh Hawaii Island fare, guests will get to know this organization and its passion for preserving land in Hawaii Nei.

The five-course event menu is a celebration of delicacies sourced from local farms and growers including Keahole lobster “Cobb” salad, pan seared Kona abalone crusted mahimahi, roasted Hawaii Island vegetables, and wild pork & handcrafted pasta to name a few.

Wine pairings are included in the price and will be served throughout the evening. The evening is entitled “Feast For the ‘Aina” because land conservation directly relates to the food we grow and consume in Hawaii.

Saving land also ensures the protection of Hawaiian cultural sites that convey the rich heritage of the state, the natural expanses that frame our image of island paradise, the wild areas that nurture our native habitats, and the beaches and coastal areas that feed our souls.

Hawaiian Islands Land Trust (HILT) is a new, nationally accredited statewide land conservancy formed through a merger of like-minded agencies on Kauai, Oahu, Maui, and Hawaii Island.

Collaborative and non-partisan by nature, HILT’s strength is its ability and willingness to work with communities, landowners, government agencies and other conservation non-profits toward the goal of preserving more of Hawaii’s precious places.

“Hawaii’s precious places and the passion we share for protecting them is a topic best savored over a nourishing meal and great glass of wine,” said Executive Director Dale Bonar. “We hope you will join us May 14, we’ve saved room at the table for you.”

Hawaiian Islands Land Trust is a nationally accredited non-profit organization with the mission of acquiring, preserving and protecting conservation lands across the State of Hawaii for the benefit of the natural environment and of current and future generations.
