One Island Sustainable Living Center in Honaunau is sponsoring a free presentation on backyard and worm composting 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 26 at the Kailua-Kona Library, with a follow-up do-it-yourself workshop Saturday, May 7 in Honaunau.

The hour-long introductory presentation at the library includes instructive handouts and a power point slide show demonstrating techniques for turning your kitchen and/or garden waste into a rich soil additive.

A door prize will be offered at the presentation for a free admission to the hands-on composting class at the One Island Sustainable Living Center the morning of Saturday, May 7.

This is a chance to learn to build your own soil, the foundation for a successful garden.
