Snyder leads UH-Hilo to PacWest golf championship

Behind Blake Snyder’s championship play, the University of Hawaii at Hilo won the 2011 Hawaiian Airline Pacific West Conference Golf Championship at the Sunbrook Golf Club in St. George, Utah.

The freshman from Seattle, Wash. was the only player for finish below par and won by three strokes over BYU-Hawaii’s Jon Scolari. Snyder turned in rounds of 68, 70 and 75 to finish at 3-under-par 213 on the 6,875-yard course.

The team meanwhile won by a stroke over Grand Canyon. The Vulcans finished with an 880 followed by GCU(881), Dixie State (882), BYU-Hawaii (891), Notre Dame de Namur (898), Hawaii Pacific (910), Academy of Art (926), Dominican (980) and Chaminade (1204).

Adding to the Vulcans’ championship run were Travis Russell (T7, 68-77-75=220), Neil Cabico (13th, 75-72-77=224), Corey Kozuma (15th, 74-76-76=226) and Chris Shimomura (T16, 76-75-76=227).
