Amazing Tooth Bus: Free dental care (April 16)

The Amazing Tooth Bus is rolling into town.

The mobile service is offering free children dental screenings for uninsured and MedQUEST eligible keiki 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, April 16 on Lehua Street, next to the Honokaa Park.

Children and adolescents up to age 20 are welcome on a first come first serve basis.

Keiki and teens from the Honokaa, Waimea, Kohala and Waikoloa communities who qualify for MedQUEST or whose families cannot afford dental treatment are encouraged to participate in the screening program in preparation to receive dental care on The Amazing Tooth Bus beginning May 2, 2011.

On screening day, financial counselors from Hamakua Health Center, Inc. will assist patients with applications for the sliding fee discount program and enrollment in MedQUEST if not already a member.

The Amazing Tooth Bus is outfitted with state-of-the-art equipment that will be based, on a rotating schedule, at the Hamakua Health Center Annex on Lehua Street in Honokaa and at the Kohala Family Health Center on Hospital Road in Kapaau.

Carrie L. Ayer, DMD, was born and raised in Northern Nevada. She is a 2007 graduate of the University of Nevada Las Vegas School of Dental Medicine.

“Comprehensive dental care begins with practicing good oral hygiene and having regular checkups to prevent problems,” Ayer said.

She is looking forward to serving the North Hawaii community and will be assisted by three staff.

The Amazing Tooth Bus also will be at the Keiki Fest – 9 a.m.-1 p.m. April 23 in Waimea.

The Amazing Tooth Bus is owned and operated by Hamakua Health Center, Inc. a federally qualified community health center and non-profit 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to improve the health of patients and community through integrated medical, behavioral health, dental and health education services for all regardless of ability to pay.
