Tsunami 2011: How to help earthquake, tsunami victims

Here’s a list of organizations that are raising funds following the Japan earthquake and tsunami:

* American Red Cross — U.S. mobile phone users may text REDCROSS to 90999 to add $10 automatically to your phone bill. www.redcross.org

* Central Pacific Bank — All branches accepting donations through April 15 for the Hawaii State Chapter of the American Red Cross to be designated for the Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami Fund.

* First Hawaiian Bank — Donated $100,000 to kickstart Japan-Hawaii Relief Fund with contributions going to the Japanese Red Cross Society. All branches will accept donations through March 31.

* Give2Asia — The Give2Asia Japan Earthquake & Tsunami Fund is responding to the immediate needs of survivors. Donations will go toward relief efforts, as well as short-term to long-term recovery projects. http://give2asia.org/japantsunami-2011

* Global Giving — Text JAPAN to 50555 to donate $10. www.globalgiving.org

* Interaction— Largest alliance of U.S.-based international nongovernmental organizations. www.interaction.org

* International Medical Corps — Sending relief teams and supplies. Call 1-800-481-4462, or visit http://internationalmedicalcorps.org

* L&L Barbecue — Collecting donations for the American Red Cross relief effort for Japan. Make checks payable to the American Red Cross. No cash.

* Network For Good — Aggregator of charities has a list of programs and ways to donate to relief efforts. www.networkforgood.org.

* Save the Children — Accepting $10 donations through mobile phones by texting JAPAN to 20222. www.savethechildren.org/japanquake
