DUI stats for the week of February 21-27, 2011

During the week of February 21, 2011, through February 27, 2011, Big Island police arrested 40 motorists for drunk driving. Seven of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. One was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 235 DUI arrests compared with 269 during the same period last year, a decrease of 12.6 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 222 major accidents so far this year compared with 219 during the same period last year, an increase of of 1.4 percent.

So far this year, there were five traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with seven fatalities during the same period last year, a decrease of 28.6 percent.

So far, the five fatalities this year were not related to drugs only (0), alcohol only (0) or a combination of both (0 of the 5).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
