DUI stats for the week of February 7-13

During the week of February 7, 2011, through February 13, 2011, Big Island police arrested 30 motorists for drunk driving. One of the drivers was involved in a traffic crash. One was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 168 DUI arrests compared with 203 during the same period last year, a decrease of 17.2 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 158 major accidents so far this year compared with 163 during the same period last year, a decrease of of 3.1 percent.

So far this year, there were five traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with six fatalities during the same period last year, a decrease of 16.7 percent.

So far, the five fatalities this year were not related to drugs only (0), alcohol only (0) or a combination of both (0 of the 5).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
