Freitas: West Hawaii Officer of the Month

The next Kona Crime Prevention Committee “Officer of the Month” luncheon will feature Detective Bradley Freitas of the Special Enforcement Unit.

On June 16, the SEU or Special Enforcement was re-implemented utilizing community policing philosophies and techniques, focusing on recurring problems in the Kona District. Since June 16, the SEU has been led by Freitas.

He was in charge of leading the unit in the arrest or investigation of various criminal activities reining from petty misdemeanors to felonies. He has provided the leadership skills required to sustain this most productive unit.

He relied on his technical knowledge gained throughout his career, his analytical skills to access crime sprees in efforts to identify perpetrators, and his abilities to put all of the pieces together. His achievement cannot by measured in a single incident but but are seen in the success of a unit.

The luncheon is noon Wednesday, Feb.2 at The Paddlers Restaurant at King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel.

Wally Lau from the mayor’s office will be the speaker at the luncheon.

The Kona Crime Prevention Committee is an organization that encourages community involvement in aiding and supporting the Kona Police Department in their efforts to prevent crime, deter potential criminals and enforce the law.

Membership is open to organizations or individuals wishing to further the purposes of the Kona Crime Prevention Committee and is effective upon payment of dues. The public is invited.

Cost of the luncheon is $15, all inclusive at the Paddlers Restaurant. Parking in the King Kamehameha lot is an additional $2. Reservations are necessary and may be made by contacting Liz Holey at 326-7787.
