…WINTER STORM WARNING FOR SUMMITS AND UPPER SLOPES OF HALEAKALA MAUNA KEA AND MAUNA LOA…

.A COLD LOW ALOFT WILL PASS OVER THE BIG ISLAND AND MAUI TONIGHT AND WEDNESDAY…BRINGING THE THREAT OF WINTRY WEATHER TO ELEVATIONS ABOVE 9000 FEET.

BIG ISLAND SUMMITS-
INCLUDING…MAUNA LOA AND MAUNA KEA ABOVE 8000 FEET
1100 PM HST TUE JAN 18 2011

…WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM HST WEDNESDAY…

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN HONOLULU HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WARNING…FOR A WINTRY MIX OF PRECIPITATION…WHICH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM HST WEDNESDAY. THE WINTER STORM WATCH IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.

THE PRIMARY THREAT OVER THE BIG ISLAND SUMMITS WILL BE FREEZING RAIN AND ICING…ALTHOUGH SOME SNOW COULD FALL AS WELL. THIS WINTRY MIX OF PRECIPITATION IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN A LITTLE BEFORE SUNRISE WEDNESDAY…WITH THE THREAT PERSISTING FOR MOST OF THE DAY WEDNESDAY.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A WINTER STORM WARNING MEANS SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF FREEZING RAIN… SLEET…SNOW AND ICE ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. THIS WILL MAKE TRAVEL VERY HAZARDOUS OR IMPOSSIBLE.
