Three girls injured in North Kohala ATV wreck

Three girls – ages 16, 11 and 4 – were injured Thursday afternoon after an ATV flipped in Kapaau.

Emergency crews were called at 1:12 p.m. to the accident near the intersection of Pratt Road and Maluhia Road.

Fire crews reported the ATV was being operated by the 16-year-old and carrying the other two girls as passengers. They were traveling north on Pratt Road when the ATV lost control and flipped over. The county road is unpaved gravel.

The 16-year-old was transported to North Kohala hospital in critical condition. The 11-year-old also was transported to North Kohala and reported in stable condition.

The 4-year-old was transported by Chopper 2 to North Hawaii Community Hospital in serious condition.

All involved are believed to be related.

The cause of accident is still being investigated.
