WHDT presents ‘Nutcracker’ excerpts (Nov. 27)

West Hawaii Dance Theatre students will be performing at noon Saturday, Nov. 27 the Hilton Waikoloa Village’s Grand Ballroom. “Nutcracker Sweets” is performed in support of the Hilton’s Annual Na Lima Hana Craft Fair Fundraiser.

Megumi Kopp will accompany the West Hawaii Dance Academy’s students and performance group on the grand piano in excerpts from the holiday classic ballet “Nutcracker” with music by Peter Tchaikovsky.

Audiences will delight in the Act I “Party Scene”, which includes the famous “March of the Children” plus the Columbine and Devil Dolls, and then into the Act II, “Land Of The Sweets,” which includes a Spicy Spanish Dance (Hot Chocolate), the Arabian dancer (Coffee) Giggling Chinese (Tea), the flamboyant Russian Dancer, the beautiful of Mirlitons, the comedic Pastry Chefs, plus the delicate Sugar Plum Fairy. The performance includes the famous “Waltz of the Flowers,” plus other surprises!

West Hawaii Dance Theatre is a non-profit educational arts organization. Established in 1989, it’s mission is to educate the public in dance and other art forms in an environment of cultural excellence. It does so by providing educational outreach school programs, public performances, guest artist residencies, workshops, and daily, year round classes.

It is supported by the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, Hawaii Community Foundation, Vance Wall Foundation, and our local businesses and families.
