Ka‘u man arrested over weekend gunshot

A Ka’u man is in police custody in connection with a rifle that reportedly was fired in a residential area.

On Sunday (Nov. 14), Ka’u patrol officers responded to a 4:55 p.m. report of a gunshot fired outside a home on Mamalahoa Highway in Naalehu.

Officers obtained information that a couple had been involved in a domestic dispute and that the man had fired a rifle into the air and then fled. Police searched for the suspect but were unable to locate him.

At 11 p.m. Monday, police arrested 36-year-old Regulo Jara of Naalehu on suspicion of reckless endangering. He is being held at the Kona police cellblock while detectives with the Area II Criminal Investigations Section continue the investigation.
