State library offering more than 15,000 ebooks

MEDIA RELEASE

The Hawaii State Public Library System now offers patrons access to more than 15,000 ebooks through Project Gutenberg and the Overdrive website.

“This collection allows HSPLS to more than double our current ebook collection, while simultaneously expanding our role as a gateway for our patrons, as we provide ever-increasing access to digital materials, content and information,” State Librarian Richard Burns said.

Among the advantages of this collection are:

* Patrons now have access to more than 15,000 additional ebook titles at no cost to HSPLS

* Titles can be read in any EPUB (electronic publication)-compatible software and may be transferred to any EPUB-capable ebook reader, such as the Sony Reader, Nook, or Kobo

* Titles are always available, with no holds or waiting lists

* Patrons have access to unlimited simultaneous downloads and these downloads do not expire

* Checkouts from the Project Gutenberg collection are not included in the current ebook limit of 10 items per patron

A link, ‘Enjoy free eBooks today!’, can be found on the HSPLS website, as well as the OverDrive website for easy access to this collection. The OverDrive website also offers a ‘tips’ link in the introduction to the Project Gutenberg Collection and instructions on how to download content.
