Police charge Volcano man in drug bust

Big Island police have charged a Volcano man with numerous drug offenses on Friday (November 4).

The charges stem from a traffic stop initiated by South Hilo patrol officers early Thursday morning. Further investigations conducted by Area I Vice Section officers led to the recovery of 660.8 grams of dried processed marijuana and $200 in US currency from within the vehicle. Police also recovered drug paraphernalia in the form of baggies, a scale and scissors.

On Thursday evening, Area I Vice officers and the State of Hawaii Narcotics Enforcement Division executed a search warrant on the defendant’s 28 acre Volcano property on Amau Road where they discovered 2 separate indoor growing operations and an outdoor greenhouse which led to the recovery of a total of 151 marijuana plants. Also recovered from within the residence was 15 pounds of dried processed marijuana, a firearm and approximately 28 grams of hashish.

On Friday (November 5), police charged 32-year-old Keahimaukaopuna Neizman of Volcano with 1 count of Promotion of a Detrimental Drug in the 1st degree, 3 counts of Commercial Promotion of Marijuana in the 2nd degree, 1 count of Promotion of a Harmful Drug in the 2nd degree, 4 counts of Drug Paraphernalia, 1 count of Registration Mandatory (Firearm) and 1 count of Permit to Acquire Firearm. He is currently being held at the Hilo cellblock in lieu of $31,000 bail pending an initial court appearance scheduled for Monday.
