MEDIA RELEASE

The Hamakua Community Development Plan will hold information gathering workshops in Hamakua and North Hilo in November. Workshop participants will identify their most treasured and most challenged areas, and provide local expertise and input through additions and corrections to the CDP’s maps and data.

The workshops will also serve as official Steering Committee meetings.

An information Gathering Workshop for Hamakua is 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6 at the North Hawaii Education & Research Center (NHERC) in Honokaa.

An information gathering workshop for North Hilo is 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 20 at Papaaloa Gym.

Both meetings will use open house formats. Informational presentations on issues such as land use and its relationship to agriculture and local access issues will begin at 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. The Steering Committee meeting will start at noon.

On Oct. 9, more than 120 community members participated in the CDP Community Information Gathering Workshop in Papaikou to map Rural South Hilo’s most treasured and most challenged places.

PBR Hawaii planning consultant Roy Takemoto presented information on Land Use laws and development procedures, and planning consultant Debbie Chang gave a presentation on local access issues.
